Any special instructions for setting up Cloud Agents on Citrix Environment that uses DHCP for IP addressing?
Are they persistent hosts or do you blow them away after one use?
If persistent, no. The agent drops a unique key in the registry so that it can be uniquely identified. So regardless of what the IP changes to, the agent is still tracked.
If not persistent, prepare for a world of manual hell... Qualys doesn't have a good way to identify duplicate agent installs... We see this as a big problem with test machines that get blown away multiple times a week... Every time the image is blown away and the agent is re-installed, a new agent unique identifier is created... I have seen as many as 15 agents in our subscription for the same hostname/IP... Note, the least new ones have old last checkin dates and what not, but still quite a pain... I have a manual process once a week to download all hosts and do a check for duplicate hosts... At some point, when I get some time, I plan on trying to hack together a python script to run the installed agent list through to help identity duplicate installs, just haven't had the time yet... Hoping for some quiet time after XMAS. Talking with Chris (CA product manager), this is a known difficulty and his team is trying to come up with some solutions.
Hope this info helps!
Thanks for the feedback. It is as I had feared. Dan
