Why is a Qualys rate A certificate on Mac OS invalid (Chrome, Safari)?

Question asked by Burkhard Fritz-Senst on May 24, 2019

In the SSL server test, our certificate is rated A. There are no problems just the indication that you could still make DNS entries or some cipher suites are WEAK.

When I access our page with a recent MacOS and Chrome, I get the message "Not secure". If I look at the details of the certificate, I get the message in green "Certificate valid". As a result, I can not visit the site.

In Safari, this behavior is the other way round: I can visit the site, it is considered secure. If I look at the certificate details, there is "Certificate invalid". Interestingly, the intermediate certificate delivered by the server is also classified as invalid.

What is the cause of this behavior?
