At one point in the past I'd swear I was able to run multiple (at least 2) concurrent scan jobs on my virutual scanner. Is this still possible and if so, how do you enable this functionality? Thank you in advance.
Sorry this query wasn't answered more promptly. Yes, you should absolutely be able to have multiple separate scan jobs being executed by the same virtual scanner concurrently.
There is no particular setting to configure. The primary determining factor in whether or not a virtual appliance will be given more work (i.e., to start a second scan job) is whether or not it has computing resources available. If there are computing resources available on the scanner, it can and will pull down multiple assignments for processing.
It is worth noting that the job scheduling services on the Platform do significantly "discount" the reported available capacity of virtual scanners to account for overhead and inneficiences inherent in virtualized workloads.
Apparent differences in behavior from one time to another are most likely related to the characteristics of the virtual scanner appliance (e.g., how much RAM is allocated to it) and/or the particular scan jobs in play (e.g., the first scan job in processing is very large or resource intensive).
If your experience differs from this, of course, please do open a case with Qualys Support so that we can investigate.
