All, I am trying to figure the best way to identify Microsoft SQL installed. Any good ideas you might have?
you could create an Asset Search TAG; you may need to add other ids but this is a quick one for you.
Here is the one I built
Go To AssetView->Assets->TAG
Select New Tag
Title: Microsoft SQL Server
Tag Rule: Asset Search
Body of the rule:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><TAG_CRITERIA> <DETECTION> <QID_LIST> <QID>105034</QID> <QID>19101</QID> <QID>19126</QID> <QID>19145</QID> <QID>45156</QID> <QID>45157</QID> <QID>45163</QID> <QID>90087</QID> </QID_LIST> </DETECTION> </TAG_CRITERIA>
Thanks Busby. I am new to Qualys. Still getting my feet wet here. I recently in the last hour found more in this community that has a huge amount of data! Reading more and more now
Most people are going to be glad to help. I can tell you some of the stuff I am doing in case it helps you.
I suggest you look up cpepper he has also written some good articles on tagging and I am always looking to push my own skills so if you have an issue just let me know.
Are you going to QSC 2018 in Vegas; they always have a lot of great information as well.
Yeah, I saw Cpeppers posts and was inundatated (in a good way) on details that are amazingly insightful. Unfortunately I am unable to goto the QSC, but my boss is
Well if you want to give my name to them I will be around somewhere. Usually drinking a lot of coffee and trying to get engineers to help make the product better.
Hey John! I'm happy to help in anyway possible! That document that I authored regarding asset tagging is only the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of use cases for asset tagging that I couldn't possibly put into a single document. You're welcome to contact me directly if you have any questions. Busby is also a fantastic resource!
Thanks Colton. I am still learning the basics of Qualys in general (I am getting there)
I am trying not to post the same general questions that others have already post if I can search and find an answer...but occasionally they filter thru. I hope at some point in time I might be able to assist others with answering some questions. I have some very interesting ideas that I have to try to find a way to make a reality in the future...but alas...start small.
Another avenue to think about is the use of Software Regular expression:
Good link with many regular expression which can be adapted to look for the string you want.
Asset tagging regular expression library (regex)
Name contains "string1" AND "string2" then apply tag:
Name contains "string1" BUT NOT "string2" then apply tag.
Name does not contain "company.com".
